It’s time to spread the word about a very useful Web site that I have been using often over the past year… it’s called Kayak.com, and it is a travel search engine of sorts. Next time you need to book a flight, give it a try. Kayak.com takes your desired flight times and goes directly to the Web sites of each individual airline, as well as online travel brokers Orbitz, Cheaptickets and Expedia, to pull pricing and flight options from each. It then takes all of the results and compiles them together for you in one screen. It is an extremely efficient way to search multiple travel sites at once to make sure you are getting the best deal and flight pattern.
There are other popular services, such as www.sidestep.com, which do similar things. But Kayak.com is even better, because it adds great functionality to the results page such as interactive slider bars. You can use the slider bars to instantly narrow the results down by arrival time, departure time, layover time, price, number of stops, etc., all in real time.
For whatever reason, Kayak.com doesn’t seem to be a widely known Web site. I consider it one of the Web’s best kept secrets. So I think it is time to spread the word here and give the site its due respect!
